At Integrative Counseling Solutions (ICS), we believe becoming a skilled, ethical, and confident Licensed Professional Counselor involves more than completing the hours required for licensure.

We are committed to supporting Residents in Counseling as they develop their clinical skills, strengthen their professional judgment, and navigate the transition from graduate education to independent practice.

Led by Ana Karina Porto, LPC, our approach emphasizes thoughtful mentorship, clinical growth, and the development of a strong professional foundation.

With more than 20 years of counseling experience, Ana Karina brings a diverse clinical background that includes private practice, community mental health, domestic violence counseling, home-based services, and individual, couples, and family therapy.

Our Approach to Clinical Supervision

We believe effective supervision should be collaborative, supportive, and grounded in real-world clinical experience.

Our goal is to provide an environment where residents feel comfortable asking questions, exploring clinical challenges, receiving constructive feedback, and developing their own therapeutic approach.

Supervision may address:

Clinical Assessment & Treatment Planning: Strengthening assessment, case conceptualization, diagnosis, and individualized treatment planning skills.

Evidence-Based Approaches: Exploring the appropriate application of CBT, DBT, mindfulness, attachment-based approaches, and other therapeutic interventions.

Ethical Decision-Making: Navigating confidentiality, professional boundaries, ethical dilemmas, and clinical responsibilities.

Case Consultation: Discussing complex clinical presentations and developing sound clinical judgment.

Documentation & Professional Standards: Building effective clinical documentation practices and understanding professional responsibilities.

Professional Identity & Growth: Developing confidence, therapeutic presence, and an individualized counseling style.

Learning from Diverse Clinical Experience

Ana Karina's professional background includes providing mental health services through Fairfax County Community Services Board, domestic violence women's shelter, Private Practice, and home-based counseling settings.

She has also taught introductory psychology at a university level in Peru, and was a professor's assistant for a graduate class in counseling at George Mason University.

These experiences inform a practical, compassionate approach to professional mentorship, combining clinical knowledge with an understanding of the challenges counselors encounter in different treatment environments.

Ana Karina Porto LPC is an approved supervisor in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Our supervision services are intended for counseling professionals pursuing licensure as Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs) in Virginia.

Supervision may be appropriate for individuals who are:
